2016 Review

2016 was the 26th year of our little group and members continue to enjoy the golf on Thursdays without any signs of fatigue. This year we had a total of 124 members

We played on 41 occassions during the year including 6 away outings in Connemara, Tuam, Ballinasloe, Portumna, Claremorris and Ballinrobe.  Portumna and Connemara continue to be the most attended, attracting 57 and 52 players respectively. In the home competitions the largest number was 63 and the smallest was 28.

Mixie Harty, a recent addition to our group, won the Golfer of the Year competition handsomely, aided by strong showings in the away outings where he headed the list on four occasions. Congratulations and well done to Mixie.

Winners of Home Competitions:

Pat Keaney Cup – Peter Queeney

President’s Prize to Senior Men – Joe Thornton

Home Away Day – Padraic Griffin

Club Fundraising Day – Peter Queeney

Cancer Care West Charity – Bill Maher

O’Dea Trophy – Brian Langan

Christmas Hamper – Stiofán de Búrca

Our evergenerous members raised €1,400 for Cancer Care West and a badly needed €2,700 for the club funds.

Donations of €200 were made to Devin Morley and the local St. Vincent de Paul, represented by Henry McHugo, and a gift of €100 to Marie Connaughton on the occasion of her retirement.

We were saddened by the passing of Ciaran McCarthy, Dick Lyons, Frank Kyne, and very recently Sean McManamon, during the year.

We ended the year with the annual Christmas Dinner held on 15th December which was well attended and mightily enjoyed by all. The special prize for the Best Dressed Man at the Christmas Party went to the magnificently presented – Henry McHugo.

Next years programme and other matters will be discussed at the meeting of members which will take place after the golf and prizes presentation on Thursday January 19th,
